| en_ES |

dc.description.abstracteng | Objective: To evaluate the utility of the Double ABCX model to conceptualize the adjustment process of the parents to the diagnosis. Method: A comparative case study with two mothers of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) attending a specialized foundation. M1 has a six-year-old daughter with a high-functioning TEA, no stereotypies or inappropriate behavior. It has been characterized by its non-attendance to the activities programmed by the professionals in charge. M2 has an 8-year-old son with a low-functioning ASD, with challenging and maladaptive behaviors. It is considered with high adjustment. A semi-structured interview was done focused on the factors of the model. Results: The model is suitable for exploring the areas involved in the process. There are three aspects that emerge from the analysis of the model: the importance of coping strategies, information in the process of empowerment and learning as a transversal process. Conclusions: The process of adapting a family to the diagnosis of an ASD requires an accompaniment that favors the learning about the disorder, the empowerment before it and the appropriate use of coping strategies. | en_ES |
