This paper is meant to contribute to how family and demographic changes affect the formation of new bonds in the elderly regarding their family integration and in relation to generational and trans-generational processes. We conclude that some generational fractures emerge making difficult to transmit what should transmitted, “breaking” the need for continuity and fidelity with values that have to do with heredity and heritable. Grandparents, a new class of grandparents, go from being taken cared to become caregivers. Probably, there is not a type of grandfather or a type of aging but several, replacing an aging model that has become extremely idealized and anachronistic, and as such, impossible to achieve. Perhaps the new notion of “elderly” is being built and because of that we are witnessing an old age that slides in different versions.en_ES
