Creativity, an aspect almost priceless in the contemporary social performance, has had an important attention on the part of researchers. However, there are still relatively few studies that attempt to approach the understanding of neuroanatomic bases of creative processes. Modern brain research presents superior psychic functions as complex systems hierarchically ordered, that emerged from the evolutionary pressures that drove the development of increasingly integrating neural structures capable of processing increasingly complex information, which in turn, led to greater flexibility of behavior and adaptability. The cerebral cortex, particularly the prefrontal cortex, is at the top of that hierarchy, which represents the neural basis of higher cognitive functions of the human being. The literature review carried out in the present paper, introduces some studies that explore the neuroanatomical bases of creativity, including an important and differentiated participation of frontal lobes in coordination with different regions of temporal, occipital and parietal areas, revealing the presence of different neurological routes according to different forms of the creative process. In the same way, the possible relationship between executive functioning and creativity is explored, revealing that these two constructs share cognitive functions of higher order. However, the studies show a great deal of contradictory data, which indicates the need to develop this line of research in order to approach a wider understanding of creativity and design, to concrete practical strategies oriented to its respective promotion from the educational field. |
