Abstract:
Las misiones pedagógicas fueron una iniciativa del Gobierno de la II República española destinada a la alfabetización y a la mejora del nivel educativo y cultural de los sectores más atrasados de la población española, fundamentalmente, los campesinos, obreros, niños y pobladores de lugares de difícil acceso. Se nutren de escuelas de pensamiento avanzado como el regeneracionismo y del krausismo y de entidades como la Institución Libre de Enseñanza, cuya impronta determina la denominada Edad de Plata de la cultura y la ciencia españolas. En las Misiones colaboraban de manera altruista destacados intelectuales, poetas o artistas como Federico García Lorca, Miguel Hernández, Rafael Alberti, Luis Cernuda y tantos otros, además de estudiantes y muchos profesionales, como maestros, bibliotecarios, médicos, abogados, y personas cultura popular. Éstas organizaban exposiciones, recitales de poesía, representaciones teatrales y en general actividades culturales de todo tipo para el deleite pero sobre todo, la instrucción de las gentes. Su labor más destacada fue la creación de bibliotecas. Los tres años de la Guerra Civil y la posterior dictadura franquista acabó con esta experiencia cultural única en la historia de España.
