This paper aims to identify the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and self schema in the Psychology students of the Envigado University Institution. The study is of a
quantitative, descriptive and cross-cutting design approach. The instruments used were the
TMMS-24 to measure Emotional Intelligence and C.I.E. and C.A.E. to measure self-schema
variables. The final sample consisted of 307 adult students from the psychology program, of
whom 245 were women and 62 were men. The results achieved show that women have higher
self-esteem in reference to men. In addition, the sentimental relationship significantly influences
self-esteem, this being greater in participants with a partner. Age-related relationship with self esteem was also found, as it is higher in students aged 35 and up. Similarly, it was found that
those who take semesters from sixth to tenth have higher self-esteem as well as their self concept. Finally, it was shown that there is a correlation between two of the dimensions of
Emotional Intelligence (emotional clarity and emotional repair) and all the variables of self schemas, which means that the greater clarity and emotional repair, both self-esteem, self efficacy, self-image and self-concept are greater. Regarding emotional attention it was found that
self-concept has a weak but existing relationship with self-efficacy. |
