ATENCIÓN. dc.description.abstracteng | Uber, an American company that started in 2009 and arrived in Colombia in 2013 to provide a transportation service through a platform or mobile application connecting passengers with drivers, both registered. Since its arrival, it has generated controversy and anger in the taxi drivers' union, who argued that the application evaded taxes, took jobs away from them, and that their competition was unequal. After a year, the vice minister of transport declared that the mobile application was not enabled to provide that service and from there the government declared it illegal. The service provided by Uber was differentiated by the disposition of the drivers, the safe environment and the comfort of the vehicles, although some passengers have expressed uncomfortable experiences due to reckless and sociable drivers or because they do not know the territory. The costs were lower than those handled by the taxi union due to its simple, fast business model and without intermediaries. Uber offered transportation of people, medicines, food, merchandise, among others. Uber receives a 25% service fee for each of its trips and had special rates when trips were made to special places or at the airport. Bearing in mind that the advantages offered by the platform to drivers and passengers, the government found itself in a dilemma as to what was the most convenient. listen to society who considered the Uber service adequate, legal and safe or, on the other hand, take into account the union of taxi drivers, who considered that Uber provided a service that was not legal in the country? Knowing that the applications have been a reality, then: Are the disruptive business models supported by new technologies useless? Are we going to block them? | spa |
