La evolución del conocimiento científico: cómo construye su conocimiento la ciencia

Abstract

El libro esboza una visión, desde la epistemología evolucionista, sobre la dinámica de desarrollo del conocimiento científico. Ubica inicialmente al lector en lo que se entiende por ciencia. Luego, basándose en los aportes de pensadores como Karl Popper, Thomas Kuhn, Stephen Toulmin, Chris Argyris y Donald Schön, plantea una tesis acerca de la manera como progresa el conocimiento científico. Define las disciplinas científicas como ecosistemas de conocimiento y expone un conjunto de conceptos (entre los que se destaca el de sistema cognoscente autónomo) y principios teóricos que permiten estructurar la tesis presentada. Ilustra, además, dicha tesis con dos eventos de la historia de la ciencia: la revolución copernicana y la teoría de la evolución biológica. Para finalizar se presentan unas reflexiones valiosas sobre el papel de las teorías científicas como instrumentos de conocimiento del mundo.

The book outlines a vision, from evolutionary epistemology, on the dynamics of development of scientific knowledge. It initially locates the reader in what is understood by science. Then, based on the contributions of thinkers such as Karl Popper, Thomas Kuhn, Stephen Toulmin, Chris Argyris and Donald Schön, he presents a thesis about the way scientific knowledge progresses. It defines scientific disciplines as ecosystems of knowledge and exposes a set of concepts (among which the autonomous cognitive system stands out) and theoretical principles that allow structuring the thesis presented. He also illustrates this thesis with two events in the history of science: the Copernican revolution and the theory of biological evolution. To conclude, some valuable reflections are presented on the role of scientific theories as instruments of knowledge of the world.
